Desmopan? (TPU)

Thermoplastic polyurethane is a high-tech material with unique components that are very practical. Therefore, they combine the characteristics of both rubber and hard thermoplastics. The main advantages of this material are high abrasion resistance, excellent oil resistance, grease resistance and solvent resistance, as well as good weather resistance. At the same time, it has the unique high elasticity and low temperature softness of rubber products.

TPU can be processed by various processes, such as injection molding, extrusion, blow molding, calendering and other coating methods. The TPU provided by a research and development result of Covestro even applies to the laser sintering process in additive production.

Desmopan? is a thermoplastic block copolymer with a wide range of properties. Its linear polymer chain consists of an alternating flexible, elastic portion with a low glass transition temperature, and a rigid crystalline portion with a high melting point. It is the changes in these blocks that create different properties such as hardness, strength, rigidity, elasticity, etc.
